Developmental Neuropsychiatry Program


 Who we serve:
The Developmental Neuropsychiatry Program (DNP) is a clinical program designed to evaluate and treat children, adolescents, and adults with a wide variety of developmental conditions that affect social interaction and adjustment.


The DNP multidisciplinary team includes experts from child psychiatry, pediatric neurology, pediatrics and psychology. Our team works closely with expert consultants from the rest of the medical center and the larger university.

Patients with the following developmental conditions are referred frequently to the DNP for expert evaluation:   

  • Autistic Disorder
  • Asperger’s Disorder
  • Pervasive Developmental Disorder Not Otherwise Specified
  • Developmental delays or differences in the first three years of life
  • Language or speech delays or differences
  • Nonverbal communication delays or differences
  • Motor delays or differences, abnormal or repetitive movements
  • Academic delays or differences, verbal and nonverbal learning disabilities
  • Known genetic disorders associated with social learning problems

Patients with any of the above are referred frequently to the DNP for treatment of:

  • Disruptive behaviors such as  tantrums, noncompliance, or verbal interrupting
  • Severe problem behaviors such as aggression, self-injury, and dangerous behaviors
  • Repetitive behaviors that interfere with learning or social interaction
  • Anxiety, depression, or other emotional difficulties
  • Tic Disorders
  • Feeding Disorders
  • Sleep Disorders
  • Skills deficits in math and literacy
  • Skills deficits in social interaction, self-help and leisure time skills
  • Life transition problems
